Roopkund Trek is named after the glacial lake roopkund which is located at the height of 4800 meters. Roopkund trek provides views of beautiful mountains nearby. The lake became famous after 300+ skeletons found near the lake. Roop kund is located in Chamoli District of Uttarakhand. It is believed that in 9th century due to hailstorm group of people died and skeletons are remained here. Some of them are from 18th century as well. Roopkund is located on the lap of Trishul mountain. Trishul peak is 7120m and Nanda Ghunti nearby is 6310 m high. Due to higher altitude the water in lake only melts one or two months in summer. As the water is just 2-3 meters deep skeletons are visible in that time. Due to cold weather it remained in good conditions.

Best Time For This Trekking: Roopkund trekking is generally good in summer (April to June) and Sep Oct. During winter it is very hard due to snow while in monsoon rain make it difficult.

How to Reach: For Roopkund Trekking Lohajung is starting point. For Lohajung nearest railway station is Kathgodam which is 210 kms drive via Kathgodam - Bheemtal - Almora - Kausani - Gwaldam - Lohajung route. Kathgodam to Lohajung is 10 hrs drive. Dehradun (300 kms) and Pantnagar (250 kms) are two nearest Airport. Dehradun has good frequency of flights compare to Pantnagar. It is better to Arrive one / two days before the

Day 01: Kathgodam to Lohajung (2330 meters) (210 kms / 09 hrs Drive)

Roopkund Trekking Tour starting point is Kathgodam. In case you want to come one / two days before you can explore places like Nainital / Kausani / Ranikhet.
After meeting our support staff we will start tour at 7:00 hours. Most part of the drive to Lohajung is hill area drive. You will get great views of Himalayan mountains from the starting day itself. At evening reach Lohajung. Check in to guest house. Night stay in Lohajung guest house.

Day 02: Lohajung (2330 m) to Didna Village (2450 meters) (6.5 kms trek / 5 hour trek)

In the morning after breakfast check out from guest house. We will start our trek to Didna village. Initially trek is descent gradual. Last 2 kms is very diffcult. At arrival check in to the homestay at Didna village. Night stay in Didna vilage homestay.

Day 03: Didna Village (2450 m) to Ali Bugyal (3450 meters) (10.5 kms / 6 hour trek)

After breakfast in morning, check out from homestay in Didna village. We will start our trek to Ali Bugyal. Our stay tonight will be on top of the mountain which you can see from Didna Village itself. Bugyals (alpine meadows) gives amazing views. During spring season you can also view beautiful flowers on rhododendron trees. At arrival we will establish camp. Night stay at tents in Ali Bugyal.

Day 04: Ali Bugyal (3450 m) to Ghora Lotani / Patar Nachauni (3900 m) (07 kms / 6-7 hours trek total)

Today after breakfast, we will trek to Patar Nachauni via Bedni Bugyal and Ghora Lotani. Night stay at in tents.

Day 05: Patar Nachauli (3900 m) to Bhagwabasa (4300 m). (04 kms trek / 5 hours trek)

Today you will feel the diffrence of air at higher altitude. You will feel diffrence in trees also according higher altitude. Pine trees becomes more common at the higher altitudes. We will reach Bhagwabasa today afternoon. Night stay at in tents.

Day 06: Bhagwabasa to Roopkund (4800 m) and Roopkund to Patar Nachauni (3900 m) (10 kms trek / 7 hours trek)

Today we will start early for the trek. To reach roopkund it is difficult trek compare to coming down. We will start early so we can spend sometime at Roopkund. Walk around at Roopkund, take pictures. Later start return trek. Night stay in tents.

Day 07: Patar Nachauni (3900 m) to Wan Village (2320 m) (15 kms trek/ 8 hours)

Today is our last day for the trek and we start early to cover 15 kms. After some days in higher altitude today its easier for the trek. Check in to the guest house at Wan / Lohajung. Night stay in guest house /home stay.

Day 08: Wan to Kathgodam (2320 m) (230 kms / 10 hours drive)

Morning after breakfast, check out from guest house. Drive towards Kathgodam. Drop at Kathgodam / Kausani / Nainital according to guest choice.
