Dehradun is capitol of the Uttarakhand state located 260 kms far from Delhi. It is believed that Guru Dronacharya came for meditation here. Ram Rai (Eldest son of Seventh Sikh Guru Har Rai) came here and set up camp (dera) due to that the place is called Dehradun. Dehradun is now biggest city in Dehradun with 5.5 lakh population. It is home to many prestigious educational and research institutes like IMA (Indian Military Academy), FRI (Forest Research Institute), Wadia Himalayan Institute & Indian Petrolium Institute etc. During the British ruling Dehradun had great importance and many important national organization started here like Survey of India, FRI, IMA.
